New Year’s Day (Observed) Today

Because Jan. 1, 2017 fell on a Sunday, the “official” holiday won’t be celebrated until Monday, Jan. 2. That means government offices, banks and more will be closed on Monday.
Here’s what’s open and what’s closed Monday, Jan. 2:
Federal, state and local offices – Closed
Courts – Closed
Banks – Almost all closed, check with local branch
U.S. Postal Service – Closed, no mail service
Grocery stores – Most open normal hours
Liquor stores – All ABC stores will be closed; other stores will be open, hours vary
Malls – Open, some may close early
UPS – UPS Express Critical shipments only
Fed Ex – Closed
Movie theaters – Open
Financial markets – Closed
New Year’s Day will fall on a Monday in 2018, so the extended holiday won’t be an issue.
The next federal holiday this year is Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 16.
